Stunning lace shawl inspired by the designs of the beautiful paisley shawls of the 19th century using Shetland lace motifs. It is an interpretation in lace of a long shawl dating from about 1820, and features original lace motifs of botehs (the small motifs filling the middle ground of the shawl) and larger “paisley” patterns.
This is a garter stitch shawl with every row knit. It is started from a provisional cast on at the middle and worked to one end. Then stitches are picked up from the provisional cast on and the shawl is worked to the other end, creating a symmetrical design, after which an optional fringe is added.
There is lace shaping on both right and wrong side rows, so this design is recommended for Experienced lace knitters.
3.5 mm (US 4) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
